Kevin E. Boland, LUTCF®

Managing Partner

Kevin was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland. After immigrating to America in September 1996 to the Southern California area, Kevin began his career with New York Life in Northern California at the Oakland General Office (now considered the East Bay General Office). Kevin was a Top 25 Partner companywide and qualified for “Gathering of Eagles” in 2000 and 2001. Having built a successful team, Kevin was promoted to Senior Partner in September 2001 in the East Bay General Office. In September 2005, Kevin was promoted to Managing Partner of the Las Vegas General Office. During that time, his accomplishments included winning the 2011 Life Case Rate trophy and Retention trophy as well as qualified for Managing Partner Round Table. In September 2012, Kevin was promoted to Corporate Vice President for Recruiting and Retention in the South Central Zone where he served in that role until October 2015. Kevin then returned to his original General Office (GO), The East Bay GO as Managing Partner. As of July 2019, Kevin is truly excited to return to the Southern California area where his American Dream began and to lead the San Fernando Valley GO as Managing Partner.

Personal pursuits are motor racing, both personally and following the F1 Racing around the world, and a fan of Irish rugby.

Ashley R. Gaynor, MBA, CLU®, ChSNC®

Corporate Vice President | Service Leader

Ashley began her New York Life career as an Associate Service Leader in the Fullerton General Office in 2013. During her time in the ASL Program, Ashley spent significant time in the Fullerton, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and Central Coast General Offices. In 2015, Ashley was appointed as Service Leader to the Montana General Office. In 2021, she was given the opportunity to come back home to California and oversee the San Fernando Valley General Office. During her tenure with New York Life, Ashley has obtained her Series 99, 6, and 63 as well as her CLU® and ChSNC® designations from the American College.

Ashley holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Vanguard University, an Associate’s degree in Merchandise Marketing from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, and an MBA from California State University, Fullerton. Before joining New York Life, Ashley worked in Store Management with Limited Brands.

In her free time, Ashley enjoys yoga, shopping, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.

Luis Castaneda

Director of Agency Standards

Luis Castaneda is a Senior Agency Standards consultant for New York Life and has been with the company since 2014. In his career, Luis takes on many roles as he works to serve and assist agents in whatever capacity necessary. Prior to joining New York Life, Luis graduated from Arizona State University in 1994 with a degree in economics. In 1995, Luis went on to enter into his 20+ years of experience in investment and financial services by becoming a full-service stockbroker in New York City. After 5 years, Luis transitioned into management where he worked for several different companies before finding New York Life. As a man constantly pursuing experience and education, Luis worked hard to earn his FINRA Series 7, 8, 24, 55, 63, and 66 licenses. Outside of work, Luis enjoys spending his free time traveling, running marathons, and collecting classic cars.

James Mackey, CLF®, ChFC®, CLU®, LUTCF®

Director of Development

James Samuel Mackey is the Director of Development for the San Fernando Valley General Office and has been with the company since 2008. James started his career with New York Life as an Agent for the East Bay General Office. Within one year, he became a Financial Services Professional (Registered Representative) where he could offer the variety of solutions New York Life and its family of companies has to offer, including investments. He has achieved several awards as an Agent and Financial Services Professional, including three Council* Agent awards from 2012 - 2014, three NAIFA Quality awards from 2011 - 2014, and a San Francisco East Bay Wealth Managers award where he appeared in the Diablo Magazine. His vision early on with New York Life was to become a Development Manager and that happened for him in April of 2015. In his current position, he provides training, mentoring, coaching, and skills mastery to Agents to enable them to have successful careers with New York Life. Awards achieved as the Director of Development include the Achievement Award for New Organization Retention in 2018, the Achievement Award for New Organization Life Case Rate in 2019, the Achievement Award for New Organization Life Case Rate in 2020, and the Achievement Award for New Organization Life FYC in 2020. In 2022, James obtained his Series 7 and is now affiliated with Eagle Strategies LLC, a registered investment adviser and a New York Life Company, as a Director of Development.

James graduated from Cal State Hayward (now called Cal State East Bay) in 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance. James is happily married to his best friend Cristina and they have two beautiful children, Samuel and Madeline. In his free time, he enjoys his Bengal cat Jonesy,the ocean, snowboarding, bike riding, hiking, sports, music, and creative films such as Pulp Fiction.

(JC) Justin Cordova

Pacific Zone Regional Development Manager

JC is a regional sales development manager in the New York Life Pacific Zone working remotely with the Orange Coast and San Fernando Valley General Offices and has been with New York Life since 2009. Within his role, JC ensures that every agent he develops is given the best opportunity to succeed. With the help of New York Life's comprehensive training development program, JC supports new agents in their journey to a lifelong, fulfilling career. It is through his career, and the opportunity it provides to meet new people, coach them, and watch them grow and develop that JC finds his passion and fulfillment. His perseverance, tenacity and ability to think outside of the box have earned him numerous awards throughout his career. In his 12 years with the company, he has gained valuable experience working with both small and large offices. His successes include New Organization Case Rate Leader: 2010, 2011, 2012, Rookie of the Year, Life All Star Award: 2012, 2013, Centurion Award: 2011, 2012, Executive Council*: 2011, 2012, 2013, Latino Market 30-30-30 qualifier, African American Market Unit Countdown to $50 Billion Life Insurance Coverage Campaign qualifier: 2014, 2016 for outstanding sales achievements, Development Manager Achievement Awards for Best Percentage Sales Increase, New Organization Retention, and Life Case Rate Award: 2016, 2017, and both Life First Year Commissions and Retention Awards in 2019.

JC earned his Bachelors in Business Administration in Marketing and Languages, Literature, and Culture from Colorado State University and Universidad de Alcalá in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain. JC is married to his beautiful wife Nicole and together they spend time hiking, relaxing at the beach, and traveling within the U.S and overseas.

Bart Burson

Partner

Bart Burson is a Partner at New York Life and has been with the company since 2014. Bart and his team at New York Life works hard to help families and businesses prepare for their futures by setting goals and devising strategies to achieve them.

Bart started off as an agent in New York Life and it was his passion, tireless work ethic, honesty, drive, and commitment to giving every client 110% that earned him the awards he has received. His achievements include three consecutive Executive Councils* in his first three years. He is also a member of NAIFA (National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors). His time, experience, and strengths as an agent has given Bart the tools and resources he needs to develop and train incoming agents as they begin their careers at New York Life. Bart is a “family man” at heart and loves nothing more than spending quality time with his wife and children.

Lobna Hassan, ChFC®, CLU®

Lobna Hassan is a Partner at New York Life. She started her career as an agent, helping her clients to develop financial strategies to reach their objectives and adding value to their lives. Also adding peace of mind for their loved ones throughout her passion of life insurance and her strong belief of the insurance industry. She is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of people. In 2005 she started her management career of recruiting, developing, and training over 100 Financial Professionals, helping them and their clients set and achieve their financial goals. Working with a diverse group of industry leaders, with her productive relationships and centers of influences built within several ethnic groups (Latino, Arab, Chinese, etc.) and influential agents, managers, business owners, and community leaders, her overall objective is the continued dedication in hiring and developing capable men and women from all backgrounds who can provide effective and innovative solutions for the problems people and businesses face. Her expertise includes recruiting within the financial services industry, with the focus of attracting, hiring, and retaining outstanding individuals with strong business acumen and superlative organizational, analytical and strategic problem-solving skills..

Lobna was born in Egypt and came to United States to follow her dream in the land of opportunity. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Mansoura University in Egypt where she was also a professor. She has earned the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) designations from The American College. Lobna is married with a very supportive husband and has two very lovely sons.

Brian Kwon

Partner

Brian Kwon was born in Seoul, South Korea and immigrated to the United States in 1990. Since he was 19, he has devoted 18 years in the Fashion Industry as a Denim Specialist. However, due to disruptions and rising cost of manufacturing in California, his 18-year career took a turn. His career path led him to New York Life in 2016. Brian achieved five Executive Council Awards* in his Agent career and was awarded the Rookie Agent of the Year in 2017 & the New Org Agent of the Year in 2019, for outstanding sales achievements.

Brian was promoted to Partner in 2022 with a desire to make a greater impact in the community he lives in and to grow a successful team of Agents.  All to contribute to New York Life’s mission statement of helping family’s futures and assisting in achieving their financial goals. He has a true passion for supporting his local community through various fundraising and outreach events.
